Traditional Guidelines to Wedding Expenses

The following guide suggests who traditionally pays for what wedding expense.

The Bride and The Bride's family cover:

• Groom’s Wedding Ring
• Gift for the groom
• Gifts for each of her attendants
• Accommodations for visiting guests
• Personal stationery, thank-you cards
• Flowers: bridesmaids bouquets, flower girl, church/reception
• Physical examination/blood test
• Bridesmaids' luncheon
• Bride's wedding dress, lingerie, and accessories (trousseau)
• Wedding invitations/announcements/mailing costs
• Wedding gift for the newlyweds
• Wedding photography
• Ceremony: rental of site, fees for organist or soloist, aisle carpet, flowers and other decorations
• Bridesmaids' gowns and bouquets
• Reception: all food, beverages, wedding cake, decorations, music, flowers, gratuities, etc.
• Transportation to the wedding ceremony and reception.

The Groom and The Groom's family cover:

• Bride's engagement and wedding ring
• Gift for the bride
• Marriage license
• Bachelor dinner party
• Gifts for best man and ushers
• Flowers: bride's bouquet; corsages; boutonnieres
• Accommodations for visiting ushers and best man
• Fee for the clergy
• The honeymoon
• Transportation to honeymoon
• Wedding attire for mother and father of the groom
• Tuxedos for the best man groomsmen and ushers
• Personal traveling expenses
• Wedding gift for the newlyweds
• Hosting a rehearsal dinner

The Attendants cover:

• Tuxedos and Bridesmaids Gowns
• Their own travel expenses
• Wedding gift for the couple

• Their own travel expenses
• Wedding gift for the couple
